THE EASING OF OUR RAILWAYS.

Auckland, August 21, Mr S. Vailk, who on behalf of himself and a number of gentlemen, offered to leahe the Auckland railways for a number of years, has received a communication from the Minister of Public Works on the subject. The request was declined, the Minister stating that it was too late in the session to go into such a large matter as .the leasing of the railways. Mr Vaile has written in reply suggesting that an Enabling Act might be passed at once so as to 'allow negotiations bo be continued during the recess. The matter is to be .considered at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. ______

Divorce in Switzerland ia theoretically easy, but th - couple seeking it must go before a magistrate every four months for two years and insist that they continue bo desire it. Thii makes it rather uncommon.
