Mother ! wat-ch the little feet Climbing o'er the gaulen wall, Bounding through the busy street, Hanging cellar, shed, and hall. Never count the moments lost, Never mind the time it costs, Little feet will go astray. Guide them, Mother, while you may. Mother! watch the little hand Picking berries by the way, Making: houses m the sand, Tossing uy> the Ji-agipnt hay ; Never dare the question ask, i( Why to me this neavy task ?" These same little hands may prove Messengers of light and love. Mother! watch the little loreue, Prattling, eloquent, and wild, ' What is said and what is sun^, By the happy, jovons child ; Catch the word while yet unspoken, ♦Stop the vow while yet unbroken ; This same tongue may yet pioclaim Blessings in the Saviour's name. Mother ! watch the little heart, Breathing soft and warm for you ; Wholesome le&sons now impr^t ,- Keep, oh, keep that young 1 heart true. Eradicating- every weed, Sowing good and precious seed, Harvest rich you then may see, Jfapening- for Efemity,

; A steady man to look after stable, etc., is retained by Mr John Smith, of the Phoenix Hotel, Morrinsville. The following letter, of inteic^t to old soldiers, appears in tho Jlawkos Buy Herald : — "Sir,— -An old soldier being 1 informed that lie was entitled to his pension at the ajtc of £0 instead of 60, wrote to the Pension Office in London, and icceived an answer that all soldiers who enlisted before the 23rd July, 186-t, and who have boon discharged for reductions, or na invalids, without poiniiUionl pensions, or with free discharges as an indulgence after fourteen years' services, and have in all cases badges of good conduct during; fourteen years in the army, are entitled to receive pensions at 50 years of ago instead of GO, tho usual peiiod, and shorn 1 send in their claims at or.cc. If tho Press of iSew Zealand and elsewhere will kindly give publicity to the above, it will be of service to certain j deserving old defenders of the British Empire,"
