ANGLO-COLONIAL NOTES. (FROM OUR LONDON CORRESPONDENT. ) London, July 14th.
No'nviTUSTANIHM: nil live talk and all Ibo protestations of Sir Frederick Abel and Co. to tho con t jury, fcho thing which most well-informed poisons oxpoctcd would happen ha° happoned, viz., the appointments in connocbiou with the Imperial institute are being privately made, instead of being thrown open to public competition. By appointments I < ! o not, ot eouise, mean protessos ships or aaiy ot the moie important billot.-, but the minor clerkships, secretaryship-, ere. la each case, howevei, tho selected one is, 1 understand, informed that his appointment is merely provisional. Bishop Cowie's journal ot his lite dining his last \car in New Zealand is bhiough the press and will be published one day next week by Kcgan, Paul and Trench, the price being 7s lid. I behove lam light in saying that «x few advance copies are being posted to special frieaids by to-days mail. Of the Australasian Bishops, the Metropolitan ot Sydney has distinguished himself most at the Pan-Angltcan Congress. The Deceased Wife's Sister Marriage Bill is once again amongst the doomed measures of the session. Its despairing promoters are now doing their utmost to peisudde Mr Smith to preserve it for and pass it during the autumn session, but I fear he will consider several other measures more important. Mr O. Y. Morgan, I understand, thinks that petitions from the various colonies interested praying the passing ot the measure might impress the Government, and so help it this Parliament.
