The Aroha AND Ohinemuri News AND UPPER THAMES ADVOCATE.

1 This above aU— to thine own self bo truo And it must follow as the night, tho clay Thou canst not then be false to any man. — SUAKKSPKARK

SAT U K D A Y, AUG UST 1 8, TBBB . Iveoknt uil vices from (ho OKI Country report the frozen meat market as very firm, moat scarce and in good demand ; and tho general prospects of the frozen moat trade have immensely improved of late. This most important industry has had to contend against many and -great difficulties. Shippers have been frequently subjected to heavy losses, and been well nigh driven to despair ; but perseverance and the steady determination to succeed arc now bearing fruit, until we find at length one company alone, viz., the Wellington Meat Expert Co., able to report most favourably on the result of the shipments for the past twelve months. This company have recently gone to great expense in erecting machinery of the latest. mv\ most approved pattern, and in their last report invite the hoaity co- operation of exporteis, which, if given, the company on their part promise to reduce freights as low* as possible. During the past twelve months (ending June 30th), over 100,000 sheep and lambs and GGO head of cattlo were frozen by this company, as against a little over 50,000 sheep and lambs in the yar previous, whilst great savings have been effected through co-operation between the farmers and the company. And, as showing what may be accomplished by further cooperation, we may state the "Wellington M. E. Co. propose to reduce freights to one penny per pound should guarantees be received for a sufficient supply of sheep each month to place the company in a position to conclude contracts for freight and space sufficiently in advance with the shipping companies. We hope the proposal will be largely responded t? 7 and that hearty co-operation between farmers and export companies will be the means of increasing the value of sheep and cattle veiy materially ere long.
