DOMAIN BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Hot Springs Domain Board j (adjourned from Saturday previous), was hold on Sntuulay evening last. Present: Messrs Gavin (in the chair), Ilott, and Ahicr. An apology was received from Mr Lipsey, who was unable to attend owing to illness. Minutes of the previous monthly meeting were lead and confirmed. Correspondence. — From the Property Tax Department, Wellington, acknowledging receipt of letter from the Board of the 19th ult., in which the Department were asked under what act the Domain Board were rated, In reply the Property Tax Commissioner stated that Public Domains were exempt from rating. From the Crown Lands Office, Wellington to Mr W. Kelly, M.H.R., in reply to a letter from the Board setting forth a list of requirements for the Domain, forwarded by him together with a request for aseistence to carry out the work. The reply was to the effect that there were no funds available for the purpose, and drew attention to the fact ' tl» at £489 10s had been received by the < Board as bath receipts last year, and which should be devoted to carrying out all works required. The chairman said it was evident they would not bo able to obtain anything from the Government, 90 that they were thrown on their own resources, and would have to be very careful how money was expended. Receipts. — The receipts for the foui weeks ending August 4th, were stated to be £22. _ Domain Lawn. — The Chairman stated that on Saturday lnst two tenders were received for the proposed alteration to the lawn, bat both were too high as the funds at their disposal only amounted to c£G3, and the tenders were returned. Considerable discussion ensued as to the various ways in which the improvements proposed could be earned out at a much less cost. It was ultimately decided that the beet way to meet the case would !-e by having the portion proposed to be levelled and sown down a foot or so lower than the present tennis court, etc By adopting this course the carting of over a thousand yards of earth from outside (which would be iudisponsible in order to bring the whole lawn to one level throughout) would be saved ; and in fact any pet son tendering; would be able to complete tl»c work if so desired without incurring any expense for carting nt all. The Chairman was requested fo «oo Mr Crump, the Engineer, and consult with him on these matters, nnd it was resolved, That amended plans and specifications be prepared for the extension of the lawn, and that fresh tenders be invited for the work. Supply of Hot Water. — Tn reply to Mr Ilott, the chniiman snid he would have the slip removed (which inter-Fen-ed with some of the springs nea, 1 No 5 hath house), as soon fH the fen-leis for lawn improvement'; had been let. Water Supply. — With refeience to Mr C Gallagher* request io lie allowed a supply of waior to his hou^e from the Domain cold water main, the olerk slated thnt no answer had as yet been received from the lion Minister of Lands to the letter asking if there was any objection to the Domain Board supplying piivnLe persons with waler from their pipes. Domain Fence. — Mr Ahier suggested that a carpenter be employed for a day or so to raise portions of the fence to the level of the new footpath, nnd siid the work would only cost about £1. Mr Ahier was requested to see Mr Pavitt with respect to thenecobsary levels. Accounts. —Accounts to the amount of £41 Ts were passed for payment.
