THE WRECK OF THE HAWEA. Wellington, August 9.
In reference to the notice of action served by the Union Steam Shipping Company agaiu.sk the Taranaki Harbour Board, this is, in the meantime, merely a precautionary step, as under the Harbours Act notice must bo given within two months of tho cause of action arising. Notwithstanding the evidence- given at thfi inquiry recently held in Wellington, the Union Company, I understand, are satisfied that the disaster could only have been caused by the Hawea striking on a rock, and it is claimed that this identical rock has now been found and a buoy placed upon it. The rock is in about 14ft. of water, about 250 ft. from where the vessel now lies, and about 20ft. to the seaward of her. Messrs Stewart, Holmes, and Denniston, of Dunedin, are retained on behalf of the Union Company.
