REMOVING ROTTEN STRAW.
A Cobrespondent of the Mataura Ensign supplies 1 that journal with the following useiul hints : — A fai mer wished to remove a lot of rotten straw and chaff from about one quarter acre of land lately, but as he could hardly spare the time to do this with a dray, he" cast about to see if there was any other way of aecomr lishing it. Removing a, coulter from a swing-plough he tried an experiment. By taking the plough over the mass and letting it in near the outer edge he was able to remove the rotten straw, which was abouc Win. thick, in masses as large as a pair of hor&es could draw. The work was kept on in this way until the straw was all removed. Then the harrows were taken over the heaps two or three times when they were scattered. The whole work occupied about five hours, but if the straw was removed w ith a dray it would have taken some two or three days to accomplish it.
