SUNDAY SCHOOL, SOIREE.

A vfaiy successful solved in connection with the Te Aroha "Wesleyan Sunday •School was held on Thursday last. Ton. was laid in the church at G p.m., and all the scholars were provided with free tickets, in addition to those a large number of the children's parents and of the general public were present. The tables were presided over by Mesdame3 Ilotfc, Blencowo, and Griffith, and Misses King, G. Afaingay, and Emerson. After the tables had boon cleared a very enjoyable meeting was held. The Rev. S. Lawry presided, Recitations Were given by C. Bew, E. Judkins, H. L. Lawry, A. Jadkins, E, Bew, Alf. Judking, and Mr Elliott. A dialog-tie was very nicely rendered by J. Griffith and A. West ; and a reading by W. Maingay (" Lazy Jack"), was received "with evident appreciation. Addresses oil school work were given by the Chairman and Mr Elliott, both of whom urged thd importance of Sunday School influpnees as a means of developing a healthy future. The singing- of the children, notwithstanding the prevailing colds, was quite a feature of the evening's programme. As on the preceding Sunday, they sang a number of Sunday School hymns in a very creditable manner, booh time and tune being well kept throughout. Miss G. Maingay presided at the harmonium with her usual efficiency, and with the Rev S. Lawry is to be congratulated on the results of their efforts in teaching the children the pretty music which was so efficiently rendered at these services. It was stated during the evening that there are about fifty scholars at the school, and that additional teachers are required. There is also a good lending library, beside periodicals given to the children 1 .

Respecting the Kauri Timber Companvj whose prospectus has been adveitised in our columns of late, we learn that the shares taken up in the Company on Saturday amounted to 55,223, more th-in half the number proposed to bo allocated to New Zealand. These have all been taken by persons residing in Auckland. Applications have still to come from the South, and for those a week longer will bo allowed. As to the statements made that the company will operate largely in tho expoitation o£ log*, we understand that this will not be so, and that art oider for logs has already been declined.
