Thursday. A meeting of the school committee was "held on Wednesday last. Present, Messrs Harrison, (chairman), Marshall, Howe, "and Smith : at which it was decided to ask Messrs Edwin Keogh, and — . Picket t to fill the vacancies caused by the resignations of Mes rs Buttle and Snell ; and to rescind a resolution passed by the late conlmittee requiring parties using the school For dancing purposes to pay a pnund deposit. The public school has been closed foY 'over a week past, owing to an infec•tious skin disease at present prevalent amongst some of the children. Thrashing on the Lockerbie estate was finished last week, the yield has proved considerably short oF expectations It may porhap^ interest iome of your readers to know that Mr F>ed Knott, who was a resident in this district For six years, and who wis For a "shoit time at Te Aroha as a watchmaker and "jeweller, was recently mai'rie 1 in Canterbury, Avhere he has for some time been 'carrying on business as a grocer. The weather for the last month has bpen most favourable for young lambs, large numbers of whit-li are to be seen in Hhis distiiet ; the flocks of Messrs W. S. -Allen and Horn-11, being particularly to 'the fore in this respect. On the former 'estate, Mr BuHle, tho manager lias a •flock of 1000 breeding ewes this season, and so far the season has proved \ery favourable, and over 100 lambs are already to ba seen in passing. Mr Buttle has also a large mini ber of wethers fattening on turnips, of which crop there is a large area this year.
