MASONIC BALL

A ball in connection with Lodge To Arnha, R.C., was given last night in (.ho Public Hall, and was highly successful, some 50 couples being present. The ball for the? occasion w.i=s tastefully decorated with evergreens, Chinese lanterns, and numerous flags ; whilst over the stage the emblems of the Lodge were displayed. The decorative work was done by Messrs C. S. Pyne, G. Ebcrt, and 7V. A Smith ; and the nitistic manner in which these nrrangomonts were carried out reflects much credit on these gentlemen. The ball wa^ openml at eight o'clock by a procession of the brethren in regal in, headed by ilio E.TV. M. Bro, F. Pavilt, and the singing oF an ode to the tune of " God save tlie Queen." This ode was performed in the centre oF ihe hall, different attitudes being taken For each verse, and with full observance oF masonic rites. After the ode had been sung the brethren headed the guests, and all th^n took part in a march, which presented a pretty appearance ; the regalia of the brethren and the bright dresses of the lady guests being most attractive. The march ended, dancing commenced, and was kept up with vigour until early morning. The music was efficiently supplied by Messrs Everitt and Greenwood ; Mr H. Mace acted as M,C. When the guests were all present the scene was a most animated one, and throughout the evening the various dances were entered into with spirit, and thoroughly enjoyed by all At eleven tho dancers rested and partook of an excellent supper, provided by Mr Wallace, of Waiorongomai. During tho evening several songs and recitations were contributed by the members of the Lodge.
