TOWN BOARD.
Tiie ordinary monthiy meeting of Te Aroba Town Board was held on Thursday evening last. Present : Corns Dobson (chairman), Frazer, Holt, Gavin, and Hotchin. Minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence : From the Secretary Te A rob a School Committee drawing attention to the overflow of water from the street above the school ground, which was doing great injury to the footpaths, etc. Kef erred to the Works Committee, with power to act. From Major Tisdall, with reference to the statement of accounts for year ending March 31st last. The Clerk was instructed to supply the information asked for. From J. P. Vause, notifying the | Board of his discontinuing the contract to light the lamp adjacent the post office. The Chairman stated he had teraporarly arranged with H. Newton to light and extinguish the lamp at a cost of Gd a night, the Board providing the kerosene. It was considered more economical permanent arrangements could be made and it was resolved to leave the matter in. the hands of the clerk to arrange. The Pound-keepei's statement was received — showing the amount due to the Board from Nov. 26th 1887, to July 12 th 1888, as 12s llf d, which amount had been paid in. The necessity of repairing the main Te Aroha-Waiorongomai road was discussed ; the Engineer estimating the cost at £6. Ivpsolved that the Engineer be instructed to have the repairs effected, cost not to exceed £G. The Engineer was also instructed to have the bridge over Lipsey's Creek on the road to Thames repaired, estimates cost. The Clerk stated that after paying existing liabilities the Boards overdraft would be about £50. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Com Gavin, it was resolved that the Agent of the Bank of New Zealand be requested to advance monies as required, not exceeding in the aggregate £100, on the personal security of. the members of the Board. The necessity of levying a rate was discussed ub length ; and it was resolved that a special meeting of the Board beh eld to take necessary steps for striking a rate. The necessity of engaging the services of a clerk, now that so. much clerical work would have to be clone in co-nnoc-tion with sti iking a rate, e'e , was discussed nt sinic length, also the matte* of preparing an estiimte of receipts anil expenditure us required hy fie Act. Resolved on the motion of Com Gavin, seconded by Com Ilotchin, that tho Chairman, Corns Ilott .and Fr.-.zor bo appointed a committee t"» nrran^e for the services of a cleik, aivl to assist in, preparing the estimates referred to. Accounts amounting to £81 2s wow. pa^ed for payment, aivl tho meeting rose.
