Wellington, July 7. • The Wellington Steeplechase Meeting today was attended by about 2,000 persons. The weather was splendid, and the course in capital order. The concluding evont s l 'esulled :—: — Wellington Steeplechase, of 150sovs. Three miles. Mr Leopold's b q Kangaroo, aged, lOst 101b (Bell) 1 Mr J. B. Williamsons) br q Aitist, aged, 9afc2lb(Hadfield) 2 Mr Ellingham'& b in Denbigh, aged, 10&b (Redmond) ~. 3 Chemist and Waitangi also started. At the fall of fche flag Artist went oil" with the lead, followed by Kangaroo and Chemist. At the post - and - rail ience all the horses cleared it pretty well together. At the next jump Aitist increased his lead, with the others in about the same position. The high gorse and rail fence was cleared splendidly, but the first water jump was too much for Waitangi, who unseated his jockey. The other hor&es kept pretty well the same position until reaching theposb-and-iail fence, when Kangaroo began to close on the leader. The second water jumpj ump was cleared by the four horses, Waitangi having pulled up. The sod fence was cleared first by Artist, then came Kangaroo, Denbigh, and Chemist. At the high gorse and fail fence the second time Kangaroo was just on Artist's heels. The water jump was cleared by both in the same stride. Denbigh and Chemist came over about ten lengths behind. At the post-and-rail Kangaroo collared Arti&t, and won a splendid race by throe lengths, with Denbigh close up third. Chemist was last. Time, 7min 2sec. Dividend, £5 Is. Selling Hurdle, of 40sovs. One and threequarter miles. Mr A. G. Palmer's b q Orlando, aged, 9st 121b (Frewiu) .. .. . . 1 Mr J. O. Smith's b q Kinga.sk, aged, B=t 121b (Furness) 2 Mr J. Driscoll'fe b q Reputation, aged, 9ab 121b (Pell) 3 Clyde, Velocipede., and Halicore also started. Won by a couple of lengths. Dividend, £6 19s. Winter Handicap, of 60&ovs. Mr G. Hunter's b f Lenore, 3vrs, 6&t 71b (Peterson) 1 Mr D. Scully's Rufus, 6yrs, 7st 61b (McCormick) ... . ... . 2 Mr T. Ray's Pilgrimage, aged, 7st (Buckcridge) .. ... 3 Armourer, Charmer, Germaine, Corsair, Fai lication, Wanda, Sylph, and Torohunga also started. Won by half a length. Dividend, i"5 15s.
