Messrs Arthur axd Buddles Weekly Report. — There have been eight sales by auction this week. The whole have been well attended. On Monday, a pale of unredeemed pledges froni Mr J. Olsen, pawnbroker, Market-street. There was a very lai'ge attendance, and a large number of lots were sold. The clothing, etc., brought first-class prices. Watches and jewellery did not bring such good prices. The sale continued for over six hours. Furniture sales were held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, two at private houses and one at the mart. Satisfactory prices were obtained. On Tuesday, a small freehold with a fourroomed cottage, in Basque Road, off New North Road, was sold by auction for £130 cash. On Tuesday and Friday, sale 3 of poultry, produce, fruit, etc., were held at the Mart. There has been a good demand for all kinds, but the supply has been small. Potatoes have all been cleared out at advanced prices. Onions have not improved in price, but supplies have greatly decreased ; none on hand. Pumpkins, carrots, and vegetables all sold out. Bacon of good quality is wanted, but little brought forward ; second-class and inferior not in such good demand ; prices rule low, but little on hand. Butter: Very little fresh to hand. A much larger business could be done in this line. No first class "corned"' entered; there is a demand. Medium class and pastry butter has brought fair prices, very few kegs remaining unsold. Cheese of good quality moves freely at fair prices ; all cleared, second-class Avill only sell at low prices, but little could be done with old ; stocks, light ; honey is wanted, little to hand. Fruit : Local apples have sold at high prices, the supply has been small, but the greener portion have been of prime sort. Some have sold at fourpence per pound. There has been a demand for much larger quantities. Lemons to hand have not been of first-class quality ; not a large demand. Poultry : Fowls were brought forward in good numbers, and all sold at fair prices. Turkeys were very small, therefore prices were low. But few ducks entered ; these sold well. No geese. Pigs sold at high prices ; a fair supply. A large number of dead rabbits were" sold at 6d to 6|d each. Dressed fowls did not do well. But few pigeons, canaries, and fancy bird 3 were entered, home good dressed porkers, of small size, would meet with ready sale ; anyone intending to send porkers should let us know of their intention on or before Thursday of each week.
