The work is one of great impoil.mce, and we liopo tli.it piompt steps will be taken to h.ive it carlied out. The T.uiranga County Council at their meeting held on 3rd in^t. voted Die liberal sum of £40 towards theoostof roplu ling thisbridge. Thefollowingiswhatpassed at- the meeting referred to as reported in the Bay of Plenty Times :--A lottcr w.\<? rend from the Wnihi GoM Mininu C )., asking that the Council take steps lo have n new bridge erected at Waihi, estimated to cost £1 GO, and stating that the Go\ernment would give lialf the cost. — CrKillen moved that the Council give £40 towards this work : Seconded by Cr. Atmstrong. — Cr Brown tlionglit that if this Council gave £20 it wonld be enough, as the bridge is in the Ohinomnri County, lie moved an amendment accordingly : Seconded by Cr Crawford. — The Chaiunan spoke in favour of the motion The bridge wonld be of great benefit to the Tanranga district. ; and, as the other County is hostile to the woik, he thought this Council should do its utmost to have the bridge rebuilt, and not leave i!6O for the Ohinemnri j County to pay. — Cr Brown explained thai he meant that the Waihi Gold Mining Coy. should contiibnte £20, leaving £40 for the Ohinemuri County,— Amendment put, and 3 voted for it. — Motion put, and 3 voted foi it.— The Chairman gave his casting vote for the motion, 'and declaied it carlied. The voile of erecting the P.irkes' furnace at Karangahake is piocccding steadily, and it is expected will be completed'and ready for operations in about three week's time. The brick woik should be finished in about a foitnight; but the baking and cooling of the sand bottom, ipqmreu in the smelting pioce^", will take another week. Mi «T- M. Chambers is superintending operations generally. We understand the experiments during the first month will bo conducted privately, and that if they nre of a satisfactory nature, seveial other similar furnaces will be built, so that operations may be cairied on without intei mission. With one furnace a week's tim^ would be lo^t every month in the replacing of the sand bottom, so that otheis are required to Wp the woik in full swing. Smelling will be canied on day and night. Messrs Geo Fraser and Son I**1 ** rod notion plant nt the foundry, Mechanics' 13. ly, Auckland, is now employed to its utmost capacity on tests fiom various portions of the Corom.mdel peninsula. One s.nnplo from thoG r m fWaiomo) isju^l completed, and a tiial of 2Acwt gave a return at the rate of £4 4s* per ton. This was the result of a pan amalgamation te^t, and the product is worth about £2 prr oz. Messis Fraser and Sons are now crushing 5 tons from the Observer, a ton from the Young Colonial, and 35cwt from Boat Harbour, Mercury Bay. The latter shows very fair gold prospects, and justifies fnither trials There are 10 tons on hand from the Thames foreshore for treatment, and other parcels are coming to hand. Messrs Fraser and .Sons are now putting up a plant at Te Mat a Creek, near the Thames, capable of crushing from 00 to 70 tons per week, on the perpetual grinding process. The prospects and results fully warrant the expenditure, as there is a f.u'r run of reef, and the cabins: on each 'side contains a good proportion of bullion. The plant in the foundry is now very much enlarged, and greater and larger quantities can be dealt with. The laboratory is also kppt constantly going to ascertain the value of their ores by actual tests at this plant.
