RETRENCHMENT.
Ifc is stated that there will bo only two votes For railway works— L 1/3,000 for Otago Central, ami L 20,000 for Mann watu Gorge, being a total of L 35,000. Pressure is being 1 brougH to bear to induce Ministers to let a section between Waitete and the tunnel on the North Island Mni-n Trunk line, but they decline. The surveyors on the North Inland railway route will not finish till November or December. The question of route therefore must be postponed till next session.
