MODEL WORKING DAIRIES.
It is satisfactory to note that the great value tor educational purposes to f aimers of model working and travelling dairies is securing attention in the colonies. The Aubtralctbian Ironmonger of recent date has the following on the subject : — " Everyone conversant with the course of opinion in the Australasian colonies must have been struck by the great attention now being given in all quarters to the improvement of methods of making butter and cheese. The establishment in New South Wales of highly successful central dairies, paying high dividends, seems to have excited the cupidity of other colonies, and on all sides, especially in New Zealand and Victoria, vigorous efforts are being made to share the golden harvest. "The Canterbury(New Zealand) Agricultural and Pastoral Association has decided to reauest the Government to place £500 on the estimates for providing a model working dairy, to be exhibited at the agricultural fhows throughout the country. And in Victoria there has been, within the last few week?, a race between the Agricultural Department, the National Agricultural Society, and the Centennial Exhibition Commissioners to see who shall secure credit of being at the head of the movemen C. The Agricultural Department has won. but the Centennial Exhibition is second, and the Agricultural Society has come to a dignified decision to carry out their own project without any assistance from the Government, but to deier it till next year. The .scheme which has excited such keen competition is the establishment of travelling dairies to be set up in different districts for a certain period, ao that the farmer* can learn the most approved methods, and perhaps see their way to the establishment of central co - operative dairies."
