DEATH OF A CENTENARIAN.

o\i; of the oldest settlers in the vicinity of Auckland— Mr Maurice Kelly, died at the Wade yesterday morning. The deceased claims to be 104 years of age, am), although some of his neighbours doubt this fact, still there is amplo evidence that the deceased was tar advanced in years Mr Kelly was one ot the tir&t pai ty ot men who were engaged to lay out the city of Auckland, and being a far seeing man he purchased an amount of land at the Northern >Shoie, knowing that it mu&r grow in \ alueas the township grew. Kelly became t i large land-holder, ond for many years has. resided in theWadeDistvict. Unfortunately for the votaries of abstinence. The deceased was not a member of the blue ribbon order, but ha 1 ? been known to state that he had drunk whi;>ky for nearly 90 years. He nm^o have been possessed of an excellent constitution as he ha», like all old settlers hud to \ough it piefcty considerably during hit- lifetime. Deceased was jolly in style and \cvy hospitable to \isitois. His funeral was anangeel to take place chis akcrnoon at the Wade, 'which will no doubt be well attended. The llev. Father (lillan referred to Mr Kellys decease yes(cday evening at- St. (Patrick's Cathedral, and asked those present to pray for his soul.
