OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Statutory Revision Court; For the purpose of revising the Ratepayers' Roll for the County was held at the Paeroa Courthouse on Monday last at 12 noon by Mr H. W. Northcroft, R.M, The following applications from persons desiring to be placed on the roll were heard and granted : Jane Louisa Boilen, Woiteknuri ; Francis Ralph, Wnitekanri; W. H. Af-all, Knrangnhakc ; Robert Bnuid, Karangahako ; Charles Davison, Karangahake ; James Baggott, Paeroa; William Hetbrington, Paeroa ; William McMicken, Paeron ; Mary Ann Moore, Paeroa ; Jane Wainwright, Paoroa ; Francis Lipsey, Paeroa; Thomas Logan, Waitokauri. In Mr Lipsey's case the applicant stated that he was on the defaulters' list for rates on land which he did not own, having duly paid all rates on land which was legally his. The Warden duly granted the application on the evidence. Mr Thos. Logans case was analagous and met with the same result. Mr W. S. Nicholls claimed two votes for the Muraotiohi block. Granted. The Court then adj mrned. The Thamcs-Paeroa coach met with an accident on Saturday last near Puriri, the kingbolt giving away and tho hinder axle breaking. The horses bolted and Mr Ferguson, the driver, was slightly shaken.

In mining there is nothing startling to ohronicle. Messrs Shnw, Qu'mn, and party, of the Arizona mine, Marototo, have sold their claim to Mr Kerry, the New Guinea explorer, who is acting for a foreign syndicate. The price has not transpired, but it is understood to be highly satisfactory. Prospecting between Marototo "Sooth and Waitekauri still continues. A party left for that district a day or two ago to | further prospect a reef which has been tested in places and found to be value for from £15 to £20 per ton. At Karangahake the tributers in the Woodstock and Kenilworth are on good grade ore, Mr Parkes, of Te Aroha, has arranged with Mr Clement Moore to take a large parcel of his ore from the Kenilworth at a cerhiin percentage of the assay value. An Australian gentleman paid a visit to the Adeline mine, at Karangahake, on Monday last and inspected the mine Tuth a view to purchase. At Owharoa the usual tributing is proceeding satisfactorily am! at WYitekauri Mason andHollis (young New Zealand), Btrnie and Goodwin (Welcome), and Skcen (Saxon, lateEclipse)areall getting first class dirt. Mr Kersey Cooper should be out in about a fortnight or three weeks, and his appearance will undoubtedly put a new face on matters. The battery will at once be erected, and the work commenced immediately in the mine, Mr J. H. Witheford is also expected shortly ; and it. is expected that the M araroa and Mariposa special claims will have been placed by him on the Sydney market. There is no doubt but that for the unfortunate Broken Hills Marototo swindle, some really good property would have been disposed of at Waitekauri long ere this, and that the various mines would now be in full work. I Mr J. W. Walker is getting steady work done at Waihi under the able supervision of M>* Corbett. The whole of the Darfc machinery has been taken from the wharf, and should be delivered ! at the mine this week. i Tenders for repairing the Waitekauri Hill track were opened on Saturday last at the County offices, Paeroa ; that of Mr W. Bunting being accepted at £15. The tenders ranged from £85. During the week the County Chairman, Mr W, G. Nicholls received from Mr A. J. Cadman, M.H.R., copies of the correspondence between himself and the Minister of Justice in reference to the constitution of a Warden's Court; at Paoroa. Although the Minister did not appear to think a Warden's Court was a necessity for Ohinemuri, yet when shown that ifc will entail little or no extra expensft h' 1 has promised to roconsMer his decision. The County Chairman has decidod(with the sanction of the Council) to offer the u«e of the lmtre room in the new County Clumbers now hehg erected; for the purpose of holding the Court ; and n!«o a smaller room as an office for the clerk and lvccivor. The Secretary of the Warden's Court Cotnmittoe, at Pneroa ; received a wire la^t Wednesday from Mr H. J. H. Ellioi*. (Jnder-Secre-fary, statin** that the mitter was still under consideration by the Justice Depnrtmont. Tt now appears extremely likely that the Court will be constituted. It is understood that tho shipments of tailings and ore to Freiburg from Karangahak", have not turned out a financial success ; at least in several cases. I am credibly informed that the Diamond tailings sent to Saxony some months ago did not return anything like t thr assay value, or the 98 per cent on the assay which it was supposed the tailings were likely to bring in the gross. i Five assays were made of the tailings in New Zealand, all letnrning nearly the same result., but the account sales from Freiburg do not come to within 40 per cent of these assays, which were undoubtedly correct. Indeed m) informant tells me that from his actual personal knowledge, it will not ray to export ore to the Freiburg works. The new Council Chambers now in course of erection at the freehold township will be most commodious offices when complete. Messrs Lockwood and Mf.&nire v« patenting a new process for extracting and saving gold and silver from refractory ores. For this great things aiv spoken of ; indeed from experiments recently made, the process should be successful with local ores. Negotiations hay(» not yet been concluded for the Arizona mine owing to the purchasers having some difficulty in settling with the owners of the adjoining claim which they desire to purchase also. However the sale may bo considered as virtually effected.
