RETRENCHMENT AND COMPENSATION.
The Minister for Marino say.-? Unit, no deparbuie from the Customs had been made m granting 1 compensation to olficerh for lo«& of .service. The Customs DepaitmonL had been letienched wherever possible, and the pilot her vice in the Manukau Harbour had been cut down. Boatmen in that sen ice weie not entitled to compensation, and none had been paid to them.
