THE PREMIER'S ABSENCE.
There was a little fun evoked yesterday afternoon in the lobbies over the Premier^ absence. One prominent protectionist jocularly proposed that a formal motion should be made, "That this House ha:- wo confidence in the l^overnment in the absence of the Premiei," on which a free nader promptly threatened to come to the rescue of the Government with an amendment to strike out the word "no," with the object of inserting the word "every.'' The inlercnce clearly is that were the Premier out of the waj the (Government uould not be likely to insist upon a protecthe taiitl.
