There hah been a demand for much more of many kinds, particularly for good bacon and hantt>, Butter and cheese : (lood pticen have boon obtained. Fruit has sold at good prices, not a large supply of local. Poultiy have brought fair prices. Pigs .sold well. Household effects have moved off freely at extremely good prices ; several pianos have been sold at prices varying from £12 to £38 10s each. Nine auction sales have been held, the whole being well attended. On Monday a pawnbroker's sale, at the mart, of unredeemed pledges, etc., from Mr J. Kae, pawnbroker. It passed off most successfully. There have been fom sales of household furniture and effects, pianos, &c. : On Monday, at the residence of Mrs Eyre, Victoriastreet ; on Tuesday, at Mrs Sorrow's revsidence, Grey-street; on Wednesday, at the Mart ; and on Thursday, at the residence ot the late Colonel Lyon, I J ark Road, off (Jrafton Road, at which there was a crowded attendance, smart competition, and high prices were obtained. There have been three sales of poultry, produce, fruit, &c. , at the mart — viz. , on Tues-
day, Thursday,, and Friday. Owing to the state of tho weather, the supply on Friday was much smaller than usual. The previous high prices of salt cannot be expected much longer, and a -light tall might be expected. Prices for fat beasts at the central market advanced from 5s to 15s per head, but stores and dturj stock sold relatively better. At Pukekohe, calves sold at Ironi 6s to 9s (id ; ye'irhnga, from 9s to 17s 6d ; eighteen months old, Irom 20s to 27s 6d; grown steers, fiom €2 10s to i 3: drj cows, from 23s to i 35b.
