The lion 'Mr Mitc'icUon has laid on the table of the House, tho rcpoit of the general manager, Mr J. P. Maxwell, for the financial year ending the 31st March, 1888. Tho report slates that at the end of tho year there wore 1,758 mites of live open against 1.7^7 miles in the previous \e.ir. The expenditure has been reduced to £(:87."528. being neaily £3,000 lowei than it ua* four yeatago, and nearly £12,000 than in the pievious year. Very economy lias boenexeickcd to effect this, as there are 300 mile" more railway than in 18^5. On an average the railway is being worked with 200 hands loss than was the case in 1854 5.
