The following extracts from a diary which is being kept by Bibhop Cowie, of Auckland, during his visit to England will bo read with intorast :-- " March 14. — Wo had the pleasure of receiving letters from many dear friends in Auckland. In the afternoon 1 went to the 1.15 service in St. Paul's Cathedral. There was a congregation of about 300 persons — the majority city men — under the; dome, ('anon Body, Alissioner of Durham, was giving a course of Christian addresses. • • • • From SI. Paul's we went to the new Law Court. At the entrance J was stopped by a policeman, who evidently took Uh for dynamiters, for seeing my All Saints' bag in my hand, he said, 'J must bee inside that bag before yon enter.' i laughed, and opened it, and all there was to be seen was a life-like drawing, by Mr Walsh, just received, of Mrs Cowic and myself on our horses in a »ule of wind and rain going over the Tara .Hill. "March 15 (Thursday).— We bo<>an the day by attending matins at AVcstminsttr Abbey at 10 a.m. On entering the Abbey I was' again challenged by a policeman to exhibit the contents or my All Saiuib' bag. 'What:' I said, 'would yoa piy into )i Bishop .- robe bag?' This evidently only made mnUcis wor-e. for thu man at once looked at my legs, which were nn-gaitered as usual: but when a small Prayer Hook was -tvn to be the only contents of the bag, he smiled and said respectfully. 'We cannot make any diOeronce, my Lotd.' It was a bright warm morninu. We -at at the in tc section ot the chancel and tho bansopts, facing the beautiful .-acred window.-* inserted to the memory of two gallant joung riflemen, whom I was with after theyieceived their moital wounds »in the field of battle outside Luc-know in March, 1858 —Captain Thynne and Lieutenant Cooper." These and other interesting details of the Bishop's experiences im the old country are oh on in the June number of the "Chuich tJa/otte,'' which has just been published. The HishopV.
