BROKEN KILL, MAROTOTO, When the adjourned application of J. h, Walsh for a license for the Marototo Junction ground, at Marototo, was called on for hearing, the Warden (Mr North orott) inquired what the applicant wanted him to do with the ground, and whether any work had been upon it. Mr Walsh replied that Mr Precious did not appear willing to do anything. Were the license granted, however, he (Mr Walsh) and others would work the ground themselves. The Warden remarked that while he held the leaso in his own hands the ground could not be sold, and ho was in a position to prevent a swindle being perpetrated, but once he granted the licenses, then the power was out of hi* hands. Mr "Walsh *aid he de-

sired the Warden to understand thai he had nothing to do with the. stuff from which the assay was obtained. The Warden replied that he was quite aware oi that, as Mr Walsh had formerly spoken to him to similar effect. He might remark that Mr Walsh had further said that he had sold the ground for a wmall sum, and had he known the stuff from which the assay was obtained had come out of the ground, he would not have disposed of it for suoh a small amount ot money. He (the Warden) did not blame Mr Walsh ho much at> his other partners — Messrs Precious and Jakinn. in the course of a conversation in the presence of Mr Precious, Mr Jalcins had told him (the Warden) th;»t Mr Leo had got the slufl out ot the old rubbly reef, but Mr Jakins had informed Mr Precious in Sydney that he (Jakins) hud taken it out himself. There was a good deal ot discrepancy in these statements. With reference to the ground, he would not yet j/ranfc fie license, but ho would give Mr WaUi power to test it, and it he did not obtain anything ot course he could throw it up. Mr Walsh ngreed to thib. The Warden therefore adjourned the application for one month. TAKAKU (KEEK CLAIMS. At the Warden's Couit to day the application of T. A.
