ARRIVAL OF H.M.S. DART. Surveying off the Tasmanian Coast.

H.JM.s. Dart has arrived in Port Jackson from a surveying 1 cruise along the Tasmanian coast. The vessel left heie at 6 a.m. on Febumry 12, and went direct to Hobart, wheie she arrived on the 17th. On the passage the Dart was caught in the thick of a westerly gale and lost one of her boats. A pleasant stay of live weeks was made at Hobart, and the vessel then started surveying. Her track was along the outer coast of Bruny Island, and some 60 miles of coastline was surveyed, the work occupying several weeks. The officers made a thorough search for the Rurick rock, repot ted in 1822 and again in 1878 to have existed 35 miles south east of Bruny Island, but failed to discover any trace of the supposed danger, although' eight days were spent in the locality during a series of south- west gales. On the passage an unsuccessful search was made for the "Minnie Carmichael Rock," reported to be seven miles east of Minders Island.

A sharp boy, when asked, "Which was the right side of a plum pudding ?" replied, "The side which is not left." .
