A GAME OF FOOTBALL.
W. R. Wills.
Life is like a game of football, With many "tries " to win the goal ; Thus we see the strongest may fall. Though brave of heart and true of soul. And fair eyes upon us beaming. Watching every aim of life; More of daring, less of dreaming. Stamp us victors in the strife. Then kick the ball and keep it swaying Though o'er the " bar " it may not fly ; Then ere death may stop our playing We may win, perchance, a ' try. " Life is earnest." said the preacher, Let it be so— btcrn and real ! p Then this game may prove a " teacher To each heart that's true and leal. Biacc each iron nerve and muscle For the conflict and the fight. For our liie is but a tussle Ever 'tween the wrong and right! _ Then kick the ball and keep it moving, As o'er life's pathway it may roll ; Then the " Judge " shall say, approving, They've deserved to win the " goal ! Thus thy sons, 0 ! fair Zealandia, Roam thy \\ oods, and swim thy streams, Iron-nerved and lion-hearted, On braver race no sunlight gleams ! They shall rave the broad world over, Winning laurels for thj brow, And our pniksc for each biavo rover Shall be plaudits, ee'n as now ! Yes ' kick the ball before- us ever, JJimvc hearts light and ww the day; Lo\ c shall down each brave endeavour, And Zeulandia bear the sway !
