SHOOTING AT A DETECTIVE. CHRISTCHURCH Last Night,

Detective Neill and Mr Sinclair, clerk of the Spnngston Road Board were shot at yesterday by a farmer named Henley, from whom they were making enquiries about a suspicious fire at the Road Board office. Henley flew into a passion and discharged a gun. The shot look affect on Sinclair's leg flenley, bin wife and son then assaulted detective Neill and Sinclair, neither of whom was armed. They managed to get away and went to Sinclair's bouse, whose condition is serious, though not very dangerous. Detective Neill telegraphed to Christ church and Inspector Tender with four armed constables pioceeded to the scene and affected the arrest.
