MY SNOW IMAGE.

I. I raised an ima^c when the snow lay white— An ima^c fair, with eyes that sparkled bright, .A ml form that shone serenely through the night. The frost was bitter and the tempest blew Ho keen it pierced the forest through and tin (High ; Vet still inj figure blood and stronger grew. At last, the brce/c blew mild, and sunshino bhonc, When 10, I looked !-my image fair was goneDead ashes for its feet, its heart a stone.

0 Sorrow, was the lesson told in vain? Met bought that if I built from care and pain An image bright some glory would remain.

11. Ere long the year to riper fulness grew ; Glad swallows through the sunny copses flew, And where the image stood, bright Posies blew.

All gone the icy stillness and the snow ; 1 wandered through the dewy meads, and lo! Like thaw in^ streams I felt my lifcblood flow. O snowy image, did I sigh for thee i The Mtiy blooms hung in garlands from the t roe. And golden kingcups dappled hill and lea. No more of ice my handiwork shall rise. But weaved of sunny light from earth and skies. And gloamings gathered in by grateful oyes. No more of cold contentment or despair, But steadfast Hope, whose breath shall be a praj or, And Lo\ c, whose light shall show that life fair. "Chambers's Journal.
