ROAD TO THE TUI.

A meeting 1 of those interested in mines in the Tui district, to consider what steps had best bo taken, in order to have an improved load made to the mines, was held at the Hot Springs Hotel 071 Monday evening last. Mr C. A. Comes read the notice which had appeared in the Aroiia. and OlliNEMuni News convening the meeting, after which, on the motion of Mr G. Robson, seconded by Mr Comes, Mr Dobson was voted to the chair. The Chairman said the matter, respecting which they had met together, was one of very great importance, and interested the Aroha very materially, and he hoped the meeting would result in some satisfactory steps being taken. He would now ask Mr C. A, Comes, as convener, to address the meeting. Mr Comes said : A very large amount of money had been paid or ought, to have been paid in to* Ohinemuri County Council with respect to mining areas taken up in the Tui district. Mr Cleary applied to that Council about nine months ago for assistance to make a track into some claims ho was interested in at the Tui, and they then gave as a reason for not doing as requested that they had no funds, The Tui was young as a mining district but a lot of money had been paid in connection with it as lease money, and for miners rights, etc,, and they had yet to learn where all that money had gone to ; whether it had been paid to Ohinemuri County Council, Pinko County Council, or to whom. He could not say where it had gone to but ho could state that the cash paid into the Wardens office from the Tui was £10 to £1 for what had been expended on it, He would suggest that a committee be appointed from the meeting to wait upon the Warden find a*-k him to have them fnini-hed wifh tiieinfoimation as to what all the monio* paid in with respect to the Tui distiict amounted to. The pri\-pnt track greatly needed to be impioved and money w;h ivqnired wherewith to do the work, it was a matter of groat impoitance that a better road should be nude to the mines without delay, and if necessary, probably each mine would be willing to contribatc somewhat towards the cost, if sufficient could not be otheiwise obtained. Anyhow after iho remarks made by Mr i'aiUos when lecently at To Aioha with respect to the mineral wealth of this portion of the district theio should surely be no great difficulty in getting a better road made. Tho" Chairman said he considered the course suggested by Mr Cornos a very wise one, and that it would be well for the committee that would be appointed to enquire as to what had become of the revenue that had accrued from the Tir, and then theie would be something to £0 upon. Tf something was not speedily done to improve upon the present track, before the winter was half over it would be almost impossible to get supplies of any description to the mines in the Tui district. Mr Comes said he had been to Mr Purchas, and asked him with respect to what grade coul.( be got, etc., and he told him a grade of 1 in 8 could be got from the flat to Camevons' whare, say a distance of H miles ; and by having the track about a mile longer a grade of 1 in 10 could he obtained. Mr Cleary said on two occasions he had made application to Ohinemuri County Council for assistance towards improved means of access to the the mines, and on both occasions the reply was that they had no money to do the work. If the Ohinemuri County Council did not get the revenue then he should like to know who did. It was now nearly twelve months ago since he applied, lie was quite willing to assist in making a road if necessary, Mr Robson remarked the Warden had recently been over tho track, and it would be well if the Committee were to interview the Warden and get him to use his influenco in the matter. Mr Comes : Over nine months ago Mr Cleary, after paying in £30 asked Ohinemuri County Council for the paltry sum of £7, but the reply was —no funds. Resolved, that <he following be appointed a Committee to act in this matter: —Messrs Dobson, Cleary, Frasccr, C. A. Comes, and "Brigham. Resolved, that the Committeo interview the Warden the following day, (Tuesday), and request him to direct that they be informed what amonnt of money had been paid to Ohinemuri and Piako County Councils respectively, for the mines in this district, and to take such other action a? they may deem most dcsuable for the benefit of the mining interests in tho district, This concluded tho business.

I Yesterday, nftcv tho Court business was concluded, the Committee -waited on the Warden, who promised that tho infounalion asked for as to the amount of revenue received etc., should be furnished them.
