TUI CREEK, TWO REMARKABLE ASSAYS.
When Mr Parkes, the well-known mining expert;, stated publicly at Te Aroha the other day that Tui Creek was a most wonderful metalliferous region, he did not state less than the truth. All the quartz in the district abounds in metals, in fact the only fear is that the numerous varieties of minerals in the stone will render the treatment difficult. Some of the lodes, however, are true silver lodes, containing nothing but silver and its usual concomitantlead. A sample of ore from a piece of ground not far from the Champion claim (Comes') was taken to Melbourne by some of the gentlemen who, accompanied by Mr Wilson of Broken Hill, came to Te Aroha. This was assayed in Melbourne by Mr Rampant, the well-known metallurgist, the result of two assays being : — No. 1. Lead, metallic, T,G4Blh per ton. Silver, GGozs I7dwt Bgr per t©n. Gold, traces. No. 2. Load, metallic, 9501b per ton. Silver, 24ozs lOdwts per ton. Auckland Star, May Isth.
