Lokp Kxutsiord, in replying to the requests of Sir Graham ixTiy, AgentGeneral for Victoria, said that lie thought that if the colonies agreed to limit the number of Chinese who should be permitted to land in Australia it would be preferable to a policy of total exclusion. Sir F. D. Bell is of opinion that the Imperial Government will not take any action in connection with the inilux of Chinese into Australia until all the colonies aie unanimous on the subject. In the House of Commons, Sir John Gorst, replying to a question asked by j\lr 11. Heaion, said the Government was aware of the strong objection the Australian Governments had to the Chinese landing on their and the matter was receiving the careful consideiation of the Cabinet
