Co.'s Property : — At the bafferv twenty head of stampers are enraged in reducing quartz from the New Find portion of the Co.'s property, which is shaping for a payable return. The masting furnace is kept going ni^ht and day on New Find tailings. Fifty-six berdans in the tailing plant are also kept steadily going- on new tailings from the same mine. New Find. — The 450 ft level, now being driven in the Canadian groun 1 to cut the New Find reef, is being pushed ahead, and the country the cross-cut is passing through is of a very promising character. The. quartz coming to grass from the stopes where- Mai^ey and party (contractors) are at work i* now being put through the battery, and, as already stated, is shaping for a payable return. The winze that is now being sunk on the reef shows gold every breaking down, and the lode in each winzo is of a very kindly nature. Silver King. — Contracts were let. on Monday last for putting in two drives and sinking a winze to connect with the surface from the junction of these drives; and the contractors have commenced work. Tn the Colonist mine, when* the recent new discovery of refractory ore was made, the reef in Hero portion of the ground, (whore this refractory ore was found), is being opened up, four men being steadily engaged on the work, and the appearance of the roof is very promising. Prospecting: ---Prospecting operations arc being steadily carried on in various portions of the To Aroha S. and G. M. Co.'s property by a number of experienced minors, Mr J.GoMsworlhy having the suporintendance of the principal party, Tramway : — The tramway is being worked every (hy, bringing down ore from the New Find, and firewood for the furnace. Generally speaking mining operations appear to bo progressing satisfactorily at Waiorongomai, and the whole of: this portion of tho field has assumed quite a different aspect since the advent of Mr W. It. Wilson, Marototo : — Mr Warden Northcroft, (accompanied byMrF. J. Burgess, Chief Clerk and Receiver of Gold Revenue at Thames -Wardens Office) visited this portion of the gohlficKl last week, desiring to personally inspect tho field, in connection with which so many applications for licensed holdings and special claims arc now being made. The Warden left the Thames at 0 a in on Tuesday morning fur Maiototo ; sjf.iyod

Tuesday night nt TVIr J. TT. Moores whare, and loffc Marototo a^ain Wednesday afternoon for Thames. During 1 bis stay he inspected an immense area of rcry rough country, quite astonishing tho miners by the agility with which ho fcravellod over ground of a most difficult character to cover, and such as would soon tire most men not accustomed to daily moving about over such n rough country. During his st'iy ho visited every claim at present at work on the field, and also u good many of those applied for all over the field, and evinced the greatest interest respecting all matters relating to the prospoois of the place, works in progress, etc , etc. During last week several gentlemen interested in the promotion of mining syndicates etc., also visited Marototo ; amongst whom we may mention Messrs Lea and O. S, Jakins who recently returned from Sydney to inspect, with a view to purchase, on behalf of Sydney capitalists, several Marototo Claims under offer, andforwhich we understand terms have been agreed on, it only remaining now to have the title trun-ifened, amongst others being the following claims : — Marototo Broken Hills, and Musket Licensed Holdings. Mr Seavcr, mining expert, was expected to pay another visit (his fifth), to Marototo this week to inspect and report on several 'new properties under offer, included amongst which we are informed is Tom McDonough's late find. It is stated the Arizona Claim, (owned by Messrs. Shaw, Mulligan, Quinn, I\ liyrne, T. Corbett, M. Marriinan and J. Stiea), has changed hands, and also become the property of a Sydney syndicate, It was recently inspected by a Mr Kerry (on behalf of Sydney men), who has been lately staying at Marototo fixing up matters with respect thereto. Fifteen men are steadily employed in developing the Pro?poctois Ground, i.e. the Marototo G. and S.M. Company's, mine, whilst five others are engaged at work on what is known as the surplus ground, i.e., Marototo South. In the Marototo Company's property throe levels arc now being simultaneously driven on the reef from different prints, anil geneial prospecting operations are also being carried on.
