The Chairman stated the amount was £10 and a contract had been let for the performance of the work. Goldfilds Revenue : — A communication was lead from the Assistant Secretary o£ the Treasury Deparment, stating Council , should apply to Government for any in- . formation they desired to obtain ie. .^oldfields rovenne. Paeroa —Owhnro'i Main Road :• — A telegram from tho Public Works Department, '.fating that no balance was available for expenditure on the Paeioa-Osvharoa main load, Cousidci iblo sui prise was evpres" sec 1 at this leply, as it was stated Council had never loooived the amount granted. It was ultimately resolved to write, requesting an explanation from (rovernni'Mit as to what li.id been done with the amount of the grant, (X">7~>) Thames ffaibour JBoard ;— Telegram from lion 0. Fisher, Minister of Marine, ie proposed withdrawal of Proclamation gi anting extension of jmisdiction to Thames Tlaibour Board, and constitution of a Hivcr Board, and suggesting that seven members would be a deshable number. Resolved that the Chairman be appointed the delegate to represent Ohinemeuri County Council, in proposed joint confeience of delegates to be held. Footpath to Paeroa School. — From Mr Ed wauls, secretaty, on behalf of Ohinemur School Committee, requesting that the foot path leadinec to P.ieioa school-house bo repaired. Cr. JJobbon said the foot-path had already been formed and loquired little beyond gi.i veiling, and proposed that a sum not exceeding £8 be expended in impioving the footpath from Normandy load to Pieroa school house. Carried. Warden's Court for Paeroa. — From Mr K. Edwards forwarding copy of resolutions passed at a public meeting held at Paeroa, advocating the establishment of a Warden's Office find Couifc established at Paeioa. Resolved, Thai the cliairman be requeued io write to the Minister of Mines, Minister of Justice, and tln> Warden, urging upon them the desirability and need that existed to ha\e a W.iulen's Court and oflico established at Paeioa. (For tho convenience of mineis and others | interested in the mines at Karangahake, Owharna, Waihi, Waitekauii, Murototo, Whngnmata, etc., for all of which Paeroa would be the most ccntial place to go to.) Resolved on the motion of Cr l?oh«on seconded by Cr Strange that the Inspector of Nuisances be empowered to inspect all premises, etc., and instruct owners and occupiers io clean them where considered necessary ; and in the event of their failing, to tike legal action in tho iii'ittor, VTuihi Road. —From Mi J. AY. Walker requesting that tho sum of £01 in re the u oik executed by him on Waihi road according to agreement be paid him. Resolved on tho motion of Ci 1 Moore seconded by Outrange, Thatthe amount due Mr Walker be paid him forthwith. Misappropriated Gold Daly. — Considerable discusfeion took place with respect to the best, steps to taka in order to lecover the amount of gold duty derived from Ohinenmri quartz smelted at LaMontv furnace and paid to credit of Thames, I Resolved on the motion of Cr Dearie seconded by Cr Strange, That Cr Corbett be requested to consult with Councils solicitor re this mntter. General Rale. — The Chairman referred io the necessity of striking a rate of O-'lil in the £ ; and proposed that the geneial rate be only 5-4 d in the £, the remaining J-d to be levied as a special rale to meet, hospital and Charitable Aid Board demands. By adopting this course Council would receive double the amount of Government subsidy ; as when th« amount levied by way of general rate exceeded £500 the Government subsidy was only 5s in the £ instead of 10s. Resolved on the motion of the chairman seconded by Cr Robson, That due notice of Councils intention to strike a general rate of 5- Id in the £bo given by advertisement, etc. Advertising. — As tho contract for one year with the Aroha and Oiiinemuri Nkws for advertising would expire before next meeting Cr Moore proposed, and Cr Robson seconded — That tho proprietors of the Aroha and Oiiinemuri News and Hnnrnki Tribune be invited to tender for inserting the County advertisements for a period of twelve months, the contract to include the advcitising of Balance-sheets, and all other County Council advertisements of every kind.
Cr Quinn moved, and Cr Nasli seconded, as an amendment — Thai, it bo open to the Thames papers to tender also. Considerable discussion ensued, the majority of Crs expressing themselves ag against the amendment, and could see no reason why the Thames papers, should be included. On being put to the vote Cr Quinu's amendment was lost by six vjtes to two, and the original proposition \v,\s carried, all Crs voting for it with the exception c£ Crs Quinn and Nash. Road fo Quinns. — An application from Cr Quinns father to luve a road made from the public road leading to his farm (adjourned from last mooting) was discussed. Cr Quinn addressed Council at considerable length, urging that the work be done. Cr Nash proposed, and the Chairman seconded — That the foreman of works be empowered to expend a sum not exceeding £5 in carrying out the proposed work. As an amendment, Cr Robson proposed, and Cr Corbett seconded, that the amount should not excoe 1 .-£2. For the original motion, which was declared carried, there voted Crs Quiun, £ ash, the Chairman, Dearie and S'rai 1 . jo ; against, Crs Kobson, Moore and Cor'x it ; Cr Quinn asserting that £2 wa? insufficient and would be only n> ,acy thrown away. Waitekauri Htll Track.— Cr C'-bett stated the Waitekauri Hill track v/:^ in a veiy bid state, and required to be repaired at once. Council promised twelve months ago to expend £i"iin repairing this track, but. had iun yet done so. Mr Phillips hud pmmise'l him he would give £5 towards tho c^c of repairs if Council gave £20. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Corbett, seconded by Cr Moore, th U the sum of £5, in aJcHtion to £13 aheady promised, bo granted for thk wor\, in order to avail of Mr Phillips' promised subsidy. Budging Waititi Crock. — Cr .Moore referred to tho petition received from \\ aihi residents some months ago, requesting that this creek be bridged.
