At 11 o'clock on Saturday, however, the man presented himself at the polico-istation and asked if there was a \ acancy in the force, as he wished to join its ranks. Bcin<r recognised, he was detained until his keeper arrived, when he was taken on board the s.s. Tainui, in which he sailed for England later in the day.
