The Leather Trades in Victoria.

The representatives of the Tanners, Curriers, and Leather Traders: Union asked ihe Commissioner of Customs to impose certain duties on imported leather, including a duty of 25 per cent, ad valorem on dressed leathers ; and a duty of 4s a gross on leather boot laces : and the inclusion ot two or three lines in the free list for the purpose of compensating the trades which might bo affected. The Commissioner expressed his willingness to consider the request, but said it was desirable to obtain the opinions of the trades dependent on leather for raw material before anything was done.
