His Worship addressing applicant said : I have been over your ground,, and although you have been following up the reef, still I must sec more real permanent work done before 1 can, grant protection. Application refused-. (Later in the day application was again renewed, and Ilis Worship granted applicant permission to work the ground with five men for fourteen days.) Application by John Abott for protection for three months for Special Claim (No 2), Waiorongomai, water-race and machine site (known as Fergusson's). F. S. M argot ts appeared for applicant His Worship remarked he understood an agent had gone Home for the purpose of disposing of the property, and that Mr Warden Stratford had promised protection. Granted. William Andrews applied for three months protection for the Ophia Claim, Waiorongomni. Granted for three I months. D. P. Hughes applied for protection for tho Aivonia Chum, Waioiongomai. GriiPted for three mouths, I)r Alf. Wright for residence site, I Waiorongomai. Granted. Koheit Tail, business site, Waiorongoj mat. Granted, D Me L, Wallace, residence site, Wniorounoinai, Granted. Do. business Fit", W.uo-iougomai. Granted, Robert Mackio, business site, To A roll a. Granted Chas. Mace, residence site, Waioroncomai. An objection was lodged by D. Y . Iluuhos to the gianting of thi- ap]>lication, who gave evideneo showing he had | <rc\(u] grounds for >o doing, Application refused. His Worship rebuked applicant for the way he had acted iv this matter towards a former mate, the evidence strongly tending to show it was an attempt at 'jumping' a man's ground In his absence. A number of other Applications for sites, and al^o one for a timber license, were adjourned till May Bth, in order that the Mining Inspector might meantime report thereon.
