Re Thompson's Track :---A lengthy reply fiom the, Under Secretary lor Public Works to the Boards letter re, thie matter was read, to the effect that Government did not see its way to hand over the £063 voted for this purpose unless Taur.mga County Council were prepared to provide the necessary balance, as otherwise it would be an uncomplefc- (1 work, and as such merely an aggravation to all concerned. Deverill. requesting that his deposit of £2 on No. f> contract (gravelling Whitaker street, repairs to Boundary street, etc.) he returned, and that he be allowed to withdraw his tender ; as he had been losing on the contracts he was now carrying out. The, chairman remarked Mr Deverill was well pleased at the time the contracts were let, that he need not commence the one referred to for a month. The Board were unanimous that it would bo unfair to other contractors and ho estftblishinii; a bad precedent to do as Mr J)evercll wanted, and it wan resolved that the lequest be not complied with. Jlremner, clerk of Waitoa Koad Board stating the Hoad Board had been informed the Town Board had Icon taking away gravel from Te Aroha West township, and requesting that they discontinue dointf so. Received. Fencing in Streets :— The Chairman explained the result of the- enquiries himself and Coin. Frnzer h.wl nude into complaints made respecting certain streets being fenced neioss, etc. Considerable discussion took place on the subject, and it was unanimously resolved, That Mes e rs Jas. Clarke and F. Contracts :— -Considerable discussion took place re the manlier in which some of the contracts wero being carried out. It was stated the specifications by which the recent contracts were let, Hearty provided that the footpath in Bridge street was to be widened and graded all the way, when as it was asserted nothing had been done in the matter of receding ; other contracts were also referred to ; and it waB resolved, That the Engineer be requested not to grant any certificate for completion of contracts until same had been approved oT l>y the Works Committee. It was further resolved that the Chairman I and Corns. Frazer and Ilotchin be constituted a Works Committee. : Nuisance: — Considerable discussion I took place with respect to certain nuisances within the township, and the clerk was instructed to notify the proprietors of the Hot Springs Hotel re offensive drainage flowing from their premiseson to Whitakcr street ; and requesting that it be put a stop to. Special Meeting : — It was further resolved that a special meeting of the Board be hold on Monday evening next for the purpose of discussing various matters relating to By Laws and sanitation. A few accounts amounting to ab^ut .Cli! were passed for payment and the meeting rose.
