EVICTING CIVIL SERVANTS A RETRENCHMENT INCIDENT. Wellington, April 12.
The question as to the power of the Go vernment to remove provincial dsbricfcauditors is assuming a peculiar aspect. Mr R. McAllister, who received notice from Government some time since that his services would be no longer required after the end of last month, disputes the power of the Government to remove him from office, and has occupied his office until to-day. He has, however, been evicted. On arrival this morning he found the doors of his office locked, and was informed by the chief messenger that orders had been given to exclude him from occupancy. There will probably \be some further interesting developments in connection with this matter, as it is understood the question will crop «p next session.
