They show that 1,189 persona left tho colony via Bluff during that period ior Australia in excess of tho number that arrived. It should be added that the BluH" returns necessarily give no indication of the numbers that have parsed to and tro between New Zealand and Sydney and Melbourne via Wellington and Auckland, but there can be no doubt that a considerable number, from the North Inland especially, touk those loutes, and lefeieneo to the figure's for the preceding quarter (ended December 31st, 1887) shows that up to end ot last year the traffic inwaids and outw ards was juht about balanced, and that excess of departures from New Zealand only commenced with the present, year. The seven last Union Company steameis from the BlutT took 1,545 passengers, made up ot .VI O saloon and 905 steerage pabMMiger-. The "New" says that there has been no exaggeration of main facts, but that people ate leaving literally in shoal-.
