At the organ he is sitting. Ami liife lingeis stra\ O'er its keys ; his thoughts Hilling Yerj ta^awaj. Worn l'is face is. yol 'tis joutliful. And hib upraised head Wears tlie tonsure, token tnithlui That his o\v is baid. Wliile he wakens music holy. In the church below, Dark and gloomy, winding slowl T , , See. his brethren go ' For the daily piaycr they stither But his j earning eyes Heed them not ; he sceth >'ather One in Pai adise. Yes, lie plays, w liile on jhis vision Steals her angel fac^ , By his side her form h as risen In its wonted pl>ce. In the bygone days his dearest. She had been his bride, But. when wedded love'dre»\ nearest. bhc— that loved one— died. When the angels upward bore her Liie grew dark and cold, (•met, that ( loud that fled before her, Now upon him rolled. For that lovely vision never Could be aught but. dim ; Wife and homo must be forever Only dreams to him. Therefore to the cloister turning, fie will, night and day. All soft ease and respite spurning For her spirit pray. And his vo y heart is ever Beating one retrain ; '• In tho land beyond death's m «r; We shall meet again !" Now the strains ot music fainWy Die upon the air. From the church are waftod saintly Words of faith and prayer. And th.'y lead his thoughts of sorrow For the days gone by. On, to wait for God's bright morrow In the homo on high. INDA.
