An inquest was hold to-day on James Ferguson, who was drowned in the Avon ycsfx-iday. Two young men named Beck nd Simmons deposed that they were going ulju I j the river with a party of ladies in the boat when they kiw deceased lying drunk on the bank with hi.s feet in the water. They lemoved him half-a-dozen yards from the water's edge. On returning threequarters of an hour later, they saw him in the water. He appealed dead. They wont and informed the police before getting him out, becau.se they thought he must be dead, and because one of the ladies nearly went into hysteiics. When the police took thu man out he was dead. The Coroner (Mr Beetham) .said it was the most stupid thing he ever heaid of. They should have t .ikon the man out oi the water, and given him a chance. What was the ladies' agitation el mpaied with the chance of saving a man's life ? The jury returned a verdict of '' Found drowned, ' with ix rider censuring the .young men for want of thought in not iemo\ing the body when first discovered in the water.
