Purchased at the upset price of £2 2s by Mr H. H. Adams. Messrs J. Me Oosh Clarke, Joseph Stacey and F. S. Margetts, etc., were present from Auckland ; but no bid was elicited with respect to any of the properties offered but the single one from Mr Adams, The result of tbe sale was a great surprise, as it was fully anticipated these claims would be very keenly competed for ; but whether any understanding had been come to prior to the hour of sale amongst those purposing to bid, or that others considered ifc would be useless to bid against Broken Hilt capital, we cannot say. It is understood, however, that Mr Adams' (acting for the Mount Aroha G. and S.M Co., late Battery C 0.,) instructions were to secure the claims, and we believe we are quite correct in saying Mr Adams would have gone as high as £1000 to £1500 rather than miss doing so. The Werahiko claim has now therefore become the property of Mr Adams, ! and the other five claims, comprising i what is known as Waiorongoraai G.M. Co.'s ground, was purchased by Mr Adams for the Mount Aroha G. and S. M. Co. One thing is ceitain the ground could not have passed into better hands; and it will be seen that already the Cj. invito fenders for putting in a main crosscut in their newly acquired property, a distance of of 500 feet, which work alone will probaMy cost close on L1OO0T."
