Skvkuat. more new claims have boon posted off at the Tui ami appliod for within the last i'ew days, and there is a very confident feeling abroad, (hat this poitk.n of the field will ore limy 1 bo the scene of veiy ctxensive iniiiitis** operations; ami wo (juito believe these expectations will be fully realised. The show in the Ruakaka claim is very promising, and some of the adjoining claims are likely to prove a good thing for those who have an interest therein. The now reef which runs north-east by south-west, has been already r.raced about one hundred and fifty feet through the ground ; and in one pi. ice where a cutis being put through, the ieef is about five feet wide, and shows really excellent silver bearing quartz. In connection with the Champion Lode claims, work is still being continued in connection with the low level. This level is being put in as u main adit level and wiil give some 000 feet of backs on the reef. The reef has been cut after driving 350 feet, but has not yet been cut through, although a further distance of 12 feet has been dr. von. The stone being broken out is heavily mineralised and very {jood prospects for silver are apparent. Yesterday Mr 11. W. Noithj croft, the newly appointed Warden for the llauraki Mining District, visited this portion of the district, and spint the day in peisonally inspecting the woik already caniedoutin connection with the Champion Lodes, May Bell, I in— akAa and other claims. The Warden was accompanied by the Mining inspector Mr G. Wil>on, and others, and evinced much interest with respect to what was being done. It is highly sati^'actoiy to liml the new Warden manifesting such a desire to make himsjlf thoioughly and personally acquainted with the special characteristics and needs of all parts of the llauriki distiict, and we know it is his desire to a fiord every leasonable as-iManee to bona lido mining, but nii'i-e specnhvtois, who hold ground simply l\>r what they can obtain by the unearned increment, will, we fancy, find little encouragement. Tn short we feel aSMtied Mr North croft will prove thy right man m the right place.
