E mulish Capital.—Application was made in tho Warden's Court yesterday afternoon* by William Murdoch for a special,claim for the area known as Block 27. In the course of his evidence in support of the application he said time negotiations had been cnfceied into with somo leading gentlemen in Auckland with a view to introducing English capital to develop tho propcity, and it was intended to mako every endeavour to float the "round on tho London market. JI. Co. ha.s been seived with a laws 01'» letter claiming £500 for having, it, is alleged, encroached upon the Whau ground. It is stated that a considerable quantity of quartz has been broken out by a party of tributers in the New Albumin from n leef which runs through that Company's ground into the Whau holding, and that the latter has been encroached upon for somodi&tance.
Nkw Auu'RNiA. -Driving is proceeding on the "Ko 2 hangingwall reef at tho battery le\el. The quartz in the face is about 9 inches thick, and a few colours of gold are observed.
occasionally Saxon.—Satisfactory progress is being made with the sinking of the winzes on the main reef below No. 4 level. No 1 winze has attained a depth of 20 feet, the reef in the bottom being 3 foet thick, and composed of kindly-looking quart/, which carries minomls of a favourable description, and shows good colours of gold. In the No. 2 winze, which is down 25 feet, the lode is also fully 3 feet wide, and the mineral characteristic? are similar to those in No. 1 winze. Colours of gold are seen when breaking down the quartz. The usual stopes are being carried along above No. 4 level, and colours of the precious metal are invariably observed in the quartz coming to hand, which is shaping paynbly at the battery. The hangingwall reef i<* a foot thick in the face of the drive, and shows colours of gold. Stoping hus now been started on No. 1 footwall leader. Camukia.— The quartz is shaping quite up to the average at the battery, and n* a fair quantity of picked stone has come to hand, the * fortnightly cleaning up and retorting next Wednesday should be more than pa) able. There is no change to report in the mine, except that the No. 6 leader is looking much better in the stupes. Saxo>\—lOlbs of picked stone were obtained to-day from No. 1 winze at No. 4 le\el, and 201bs from the sixth stope on the main reef, seaward of the rise.
Paeroa, March 26. Good headwny i" now being made with the work of conveying the Waihi Corapanj 's machinery from here to mine. The stone breaker, weighing about 5 tons, vas landed at its destination to-day, and when the road repairs now in progress are complete no difficulty will be experienced in transporting the heaviest pieces of machinery belonging to the consignment. At the Martha Company's battery, Waihi, 20 head of ntampers are now running full time in the reduction of tnbuters' crushing dirt, and although tho uruffis low grade it is shaping for. a rutnunerative return.
DrxEDix, March 26. The Roxburgh claims are at a standstill ' owinjr to the high state of the river. The sale of Blue Spur claim? has been definitely made, though a strong feeling exists, against including tailings. The claims' j paid up capital will be £15,000 less in | consequence.

Thames March 24. SPECIAL CLAIM. William Murdoch has been granted a license for block 27 as a special claim. Mr W. H. Airey, Assistant Master at the High School, who has been appointed Inspector of Schools, was yesterday afternoon the recipient of a handsome timepiece and illuminated address. Mr Airey leaves for Auckland in a day or two.
DEWBERRY - VAUTIN COMPANY. Representatives of the Newberry-Vautin Company have purchased the La Monte furnace and site for the erection of the necessary machinery in connection with the process at Thames. It is piobablo that the plant will come to hand ao an eaily date.
SPLENDID YIELD FROM WHAXOAMATA QUARTZ. The treatment of 2401bs of quartz from Whanjjamatawas finished by Piico Bio?-, yesterday, for a return of 500/.i of bullion, valued al 15s per ounce. Thi& i.s equivilcnt to £320 per ton.
