WAIORONGOMAI.

At Waiorongomai the iraji sforrnat ion that has been effected sinco Air W. R. Wilson, a week ago, came upon the scene, has r»een almost as sudden and complete as if brought about by the wand of a magician. A fortnight ago a very considerable number oF men were unemployed, and were looking disconsolately forward to the coming winter, as f,o a period of privation and distress. The hopes which were entertained by a few that ono or other of the English companies about which there has been so much said would come to the rescue, had almost died out, and gloomy forebodings wore generally indulged in. That state of things now belong to the past ; to day (here is not an idle man in the township, ana instead of theory of no employment wo are likely shortly to hear of a scarcity of labour. On Monday somo forty men started to woik for the new proprietor)', and lenders have been called for other works which will requu-3 about thirty move. What is now being done may be regarded as only the preliminary to a comprehensive scheme of operations, which, when under weigh, will give employment to fully two hundred men under the new ownership. But other companies will no doubt he stirred into activity, and hefoie the lapse of many months we expect to see tho Wairongomai field, as it was in its early days, a scene of busy life and industry.
