The winding macninery and plant belonging to tlio Dart G.M. Co., in the Hape Creek, has been purchased by the Union Gold Mining Company, Waihi, and the manager (Mr W. J. Walker), has invited tenders for drawing the pumps from the Dart shaft, dismantling the engine, boiler, etc , and conveying the- whole plant to Waihi. The County Council, we understand, are arranging privately for the erection of County offices, on freehold ground the property, of; Council, situated in the now township (known as leaser's), and near the site for the railway station. (By tho bye, in view of: these proposed improvements, and for the protection of the Council and ratepayers generally, no doubt Government will no tonger delay the erection of the warning " Stop ! Look out for tho Engine!", which notice it is usually deemed necessary to erect several year in advance, for what reason we know not). Jt is said Messrs Coote and Snodi>rass contemplate riveting a public hall on the new township also. ft has often been remaikcd that the persons who should lie most interested in the fo.steiing of our local niitu-ral ics-ources, ' namely, the residents of tho townships and centres, who, though not miners themselves, directly or indirectly reap the benefit of minim; ; aie the least enthusiastic in tho matter of prospecting and opening up the country for mining purposes. This work is generaly left to sheei; outsiders; there is now however some likehood of tl is state of affairs being remedied as it is quite on the cards that a local Prospecting Association will bo o?-g;in'me<l shortly in Olunemtiri. Theshares arc to be limited in number some 40 or 50 only to be allotted. Good names are mentioned for the actual prospecting, as of course it greatly depends on these men whether or not tho enterprise will prove a success. Ft is intended to shortly call a meeting of those interested, issue a prospectus, and start a sharelist. It is stated that in all probability the Woodstock mine and furnace and other ; mining property at Karangahako will be purchased by Sydney capitalists, who, in the event Jof their becoming tho owners would invest a large sum for tho thorough development of the property. The report that has been circulated, to the effect that the roads were so bad that the transit of machinery from Paeroa to Waihi had been thereby stopped, is incorrect. No stoppage lias occurred, beyond two or three days when the roads were heavy from the recent rainfall. The County Council are fully alive to the importance of the roads being kept open, and are doing all in their power in that direction. Influence has also been brought to bear on the Government in same direction, and on Thursday Mr W. G. Nicholls, County Chairman received a telegram fromGovernmentasking what amount would be necessary to execute most urgent repairs to the main road to Wdihi, and what portion thereof the County would provide. Tho County Chairman promptly wired back £200 I would probably be sufficientfor immediate requirements of which i,-ounty would find j onethiid.
