Sir George Grey a Governor of New Zealand. (From Auckland Star.)
Considekable public interest has beea evoked by the suggestion thrown out in our leading columns of Saturday last to the effect that the colonists of New Zealand should memoraliso tho English Government* to appoint Sir George Grey as Governor in succession to Sir William Jervois. The following are among tho numerous expressions of opinion on the subject that have reached us : — \ Our Tufikau correspondent writes :—: — " Much local expression of feeling endorses the sentiments contained in tho Star's leader of the 17th inst., and little doubt isentertained but that the general consensus of opinion throughout the length and breadth of the colony will be strongly in favour of supporting the rwjvmc of one who is regarded as THE PEOPLE'S FRIEND, the long-tried and never failing advocate of the rights of his fellow man."
