The Sculling Championship. THE TRAINING.
Vjltkk Kkmi 1 , the holder of the sculling championship, proposes visiting WilliamBeach, the refcirefl champion of the world. Beach reticles near Lake Illawarra, a spacious sheet of water on the southern coast of New South Wales, and the two oarsmen intend to do a good deal of rowing. On returning to Sydney, Kemp will take up his quarter.* at Kyde, on the Parramatta River, horn which place he will train for his forthcoming raco with Edward Hanlan. on May sth. The Toronto sculler does a little river work on the Parramafcta at* stated intervals. He is in good health, and should row a great race against the -New South Wales man. Kemp has impiwed wondei fully since lie returned from England, and he is now considered to be the most brilliant sculler in Australia. He lias great pace, and that lie possesses good staying powers for a distance was shown in the recent match between him and Clifford. Kemp has latterly rome very much into favour with the colonists, who are hoping that he will be able to defeat Hanlar, and thus keep the sculling championship of the world in New South Wales. George Perkins?, the English ev-champion, has been taking a holiday in the interior ; but whilstclambering oversome rough country in the neighbourhood of atownshipcalled .Toadja, he had the misfortune to sprain hi* ankle badly. This will hinder him from doing active river work for some time to come. Edward Tricketb, who is matched to row Hanlan at Rockhampton in June, i? doing good work on the Fitzroy River, Queensland. Tricketb is still very heavy, but he is rapidly getting into somethinglike form.
