Tho following woie appointed examiners for tho December examinations : — Classics, Professor Side ; French, John VV. Joynt, M.A. ; (Jorman, Key. Dr. ttahnoud ; Physios, Professor F. L. Brown ; Chemistry. Professor Bickerton ; JJiologv, Profe&hor llutton ; English, Pioiessoi Po.snett; Hiatory (junior 6chol.'ir«hip), i'i'ofe&*or M Brown ; Ueogranhy (junior and matriculation), Professor M. Jiiown; Jl^tory (matriculation), Pro- 1 ft")-or M. Urowu. Mathematics: — Arithmetic, Professor Cook; Euclid and Mechanic^, PioW-sor Aldis (junior scholarship' •papers and matriculation); Algebra, l*)Ofessor Shand. Thercport of the committee on the examination of candidates for the legal profession was adopted, li recommended—(l) That there was no didiculty in undertaking examinations ; (2) that tho rules and regulations made by judge* under the Law Practitioners' Act, 1882, be amended ko as to bo provided, htdr n/ia — (a) that the general knowledge examination qualifying for barrister should be passed with credit in junior scholarship examinations; (If) that geneial knowledge examination ([ualityinp ior eolicitor should be pa-sing 1 the matriculation exammfftion ; (c) -that tho obtaining of a »eertifioffte of ]ia«s in subjects niontioncd in rule 11 ot the' rules made under the Law-Vractitionei -?Act, 1882, at the LL.B. examinations should he {••urticient for barnsters ; (dj that the obtaining of a certificate of pass in the said subjects, omitting Roman law and international law in the LL.B. examination, should be pass for solicitors ; (3) thut the Senate allow all who are candidates ior admission to tho le^al profession to eit an LL.B. examination, and take ftll examinations, at once if they so desire it ; (4) that additional subjects of statute law in New Zealand and practice and procedure ai the Courts of New Zealand be added to the second or thiid LL.B. examinations: (5) that the following gentlemen be law examiners for the ensuing year :— Contracts, T. Fitchett, M.A., LL.D. ; real and personal property, P. Levi, M.A., LL.B. ; evi('enre. J. McUregor, M.A..; criminal law, J. C. Martin, Crown Prosecutor ; equity, J. W. Salmond, M.A., LL.B. ; statute law of New Zealand, J. A. Sole, LL.B.. ; practice and procedure oi Courts, J. E. Denruston. ' It was resolved, "That affiliated institutions^hould be urged to provide for teaching logic and psychology in their beaiing on education, and also history and the philosophy of education and of educational method, and that the Education Department bo asked to give credit for certiti- ' cates." It was resolved, re the Gilchrist Scholarship, to pray His Excellency, in the interests of the colony, to use his influence for the restoration of it, and that the Chancellor be requested to communicate on the subject with Mr Carpenter (agent for; the University in London) and likewise with the Agent-General.
