Meluouknf, March 3. The weather for the first clay's racing of the V.R.C. Autumn Meeting was splendid. There was a capital attendance, amongst those present being His Excolleuoy the Governor (Sir Homy Loch), and Lord Carrington, Gcnomor of New South Wale*. Enfilade led all the way round, past the tutn, and into the straight, but was passed bv Australian Peer at the distance post, Abercorn at the same time comintr fasc, and, by excellent judgment of Hales (his jockey 1, catching the lender. A fine race ensued down the straight, Abercorn winning by a length, and Moorhouse just beating Enfilade on the post for third place. Time, 3min 15^sec. Victim, and Torpedo, 15 to 1 Chicago, 25 to 1 The Charmer. Owing to the fractiousnesa of several horses, there was some delay at the post. Several false starts were made. Eventually the field got off well together, Master John being the first to jump away, with Torpedo, Lord Allen, Pomona, Mitrailleuse, Bea Bolt, Mozart, My Lord, Cranbrook, in close order, as nearest attendants. When the rails were reached, Ben Bolt had run to the head of attain 3 , with Mitrailleuse at his girths, closely followed by Victim, My Lord, Lord Allen, Boz, and Cranbrook. -At the tan crossing Victim and The Charmer appeared prominently in the van, but at the distance Cranbrook, who was in the middle of the course,, was seen to ba forging his way to the front, and in a iew strides assumed the lead, when' Hales gave the son of Cheater his head, and he won in a canter by % three lengths, Lord Allen a length and a half in frohfc of Victim. The others finished as follows : — Epicurean fourth, Boz fifth, Chicago sixth, and Tho Charmer* eighth. Escutcheon was last to pass the post. A smart shower of rain fell just before theetait. Cailyon got the best of a good start, and Ben Bolt, Oakleigh, Arsenal, and Enfilade also got well away. At the bheds E. D. ran up to the favourite, and at the turn into the straight the first time took a slight lead. Nelson at this time also improved his position, and was in close attendance on the leaders, Ben Bolt running last. Passing the stand, Carlyon was again at the head of affairs, closely followed by E. DMD M Dick Swiveller, Moorhouse, Oakleigh, Arsenal, and Australian Peer. Nelson now began to tail oft. Passing the bheds the second time Ben Bolt ran into third place, with Oakleigh, Dick Swiveller, Australian Peer, and Arsenal racing together in a bunch. Turning into the straight Carlyon still maintained the lead, but at the distance post Arsenal shot out from the second division and challenged the favourite, but could never quite get on even terme, and the Hon. Mr White's horse won by half a length, Arsenal beating Dick Swiveller by a neck for second place. Enfilade was fourth, then came Abuse, E. D., Nelson, Ben Bolt, Australian Peer, Moorhouse and Malua.
